BEAR -- Our 2007 spring bear season started with Lori Mizwicki and her father from
Michigan coming up at the end of April and setting a precedent for the season. I witnessed Lori taking a great shot and harvesting a large
boar scoring 19' 6/16th P/Y. No doubt, when I saw this boar move in, I gave Lori the thumbs up. She showed great composure and discipline....congratulations Lori!
The next group of hunters were 'return' bow hunters from Virgina with continued success on their harvest. Greg Gesner took a P/Y and Roy Martin a great color phase bow kill; once again it was super group and fun for all of us to be part of. Bo Erikson of Sweden harvested a large 19' 5/16th boar and along with his two hunting companions, left Canada very happy which resulted in another nine from Sweden booked
for 2008. May 13th and everything going excellent. Can it continue? It does.
The following week Roger Olson and his daughter Stephanie from Wisconsin had both opportunity and success. I once again, accompanied Stephanie and after having her pass up the first six bears she harvested a bear in a unique way---treed by me, different and exciting. Kris Barker, returning for the fourth time had some great video of a large P/Y at a bait I hadn't hunted in seven years. The baiting program is paying off. Kris experienced some bad luck but we enjoyed the comraderie once again. Mike and Henry from Illinois both harvested their bears and yet another great week went by.
The week of the 20th-27th we had a group from Pennsylvania, Charles Brooke, Robert Brooke and Steve Fairmon ---
all of them experienced a great week. Also joining them was Kurt Davis from Oklahoma. who did a good job with his bow. Things
are rolling along great, Donavon and I are asking ourselves when is the bubble going to break!?!
The Week of May27th-June 3rd came and the bubble still did not break, in fact it was the best
week in 24 years, allowing harvesting four P/Y in one day: Scott Ely and Rick Fisher, both from Pennsylvania, Scott Freemyer from Minnesota
and Marty Davis. Great day, an outfitters dream! Eugene Myers and his son from Virginia started with some wounded bears
but finally ended up taking bears home. This completed the most memorable week.
June 3rd -10th, newcomers in from West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Kentucky harvested more P/Y and yet we had another superb week. Our spring season ended with sightings up considerably, I do not know why, but I have my theories.
Only two bow hunters went home without bear, but both let arrows fly at P/Y opportunities and passed on many bears.
Our fall season saw successes and opportunities continue. September 2nd-9th had the Walters family
from Illinois all harvest bears. I really enjoyed the time shared with this family. Louis Dieke from Florida returned
and had a good week along with two other new friends from Mexico who were overcome with excitement and harvested the
first bears seen.
The week of 9th-16th had a group of four from Virginia enjoy stalking bears on fields and oak ridges adding
some extra excitement to their accomplishments. Robert Wierski, from New Jersey continued adding to our our success rate with a good muzzleloader
shot.
The season ended with some new friends from Italy, on a combination hunt. They harvested their bears and it
seems that language has no barriers when it comes to experiencing the moment.
Our baiting program consists of baiting over a hundred sites throughout the year but actually only hunting
about 40 of them throughout the season, which seems to be working well. The only decision to be made day-to-day is what
bait will the big one be at today.
WATERFOWL -- Our waterfowl season was excellent with hunters from Italy and the United States seeing limits everyday
out. The bird numbers were at an all time high making decoying and hunting a pleasure for all. I myself enjoyed field
shooting with my brother-in-law and nephew after the season, harvesting our limits of mallards.
MOOSE -- The weather was against us during our moose season, but even with bad weather, wind and rain 7 of our 10 hunters tooks bulls. Their success was much appreciated and kudos to the guides for making this a successful season.
DEER -- Our 2007 deer season started off with a return group of bow hunters, the Pat Sherman group, doing very well. Their
fourth hunt with us was successful and they rebooked for 2009. Wolf sightings and opportunities were on a daily basis.
The muzzleloading season was warm and still, hunting hard due to the lack of movement but some happy
hunters from Pennsylvania --- Donald Gibson, Gerald Shirley, Richard Stauffer and the New Jersey boys --- Richard and Jack Manchur, Jack Dykstra, Rob
Alway and Michael Esposito all went home successful. The Massachusetts hunters: Brett Purvis, Victor Cormier joined them in success and
a memorable hunt. Robert Greg, hunted hard from the tent camp and saw fifteen animals but went home empty handed --- he asked if he could have a choice of stands should he come back.
The muzzleloading successes were consistent with other years. My new friend Mank Mankewich, hunted hard during the week
and saw good numbers early in the week but they slowed down towards the end of the week. Fortunately, due to his hard hunting he was
successful early into his rifle week, of the two week combination. I really enjoyed my guiding experience with him.
Another two week combo hunter, Micheal Esposito, New Jersey harvested early in the muzzleloader season and became our camp entertainment
at the cabins. He again scored at the tent camps during his rifle hunt. Congratulations Michael. More wolves seen and opporunites had.
Our rifle hunts started with two wolves shot the first day, Don Webber of Minnesota shot a large white wolf and later
in the week harvested a good buck. Anthony Truocchio from New York, also killed a big wolf and matched that up with a nice buck
later in the week. Memories never forgotten! Gerald Munzen of Minnesota, hunted out of the cabins, whom I guided
was unsuccessful for the week. Gerald's hard hunting and dedication to the field is matched by few. His continued
efforts will pay off in his future hunts. Pleasure was mine. Dallas Felder of Pennsylvania harvested his unusual buck which
was big and over the hill, in my special area where I have done well over the years. Dallas will have something to
talk about for a long time. Pat and Rob Abate of New York both harvested their best early in the week and smiles proved
that. Congratulations, I am glad you enjoyed your hunt!
Randy Bonitatibus, Ron Shaw and John Kwiatkowski of New York returned again to their special spot with us and we had Randy and
Ron hanging on to their trophys at the end of the week, with John seeing his but not getting a shot off. Our 2007
deer season was good in numbers and that is a testimonal of the hard work that our guides put into it.
I once again would like to thank my guides Donavon, Weasel, Mikey, Chase, Dean, Tom, Dave, Lucky and Gordie for their
efforts in making 2007 successful and memorable. I am sure everyone having shared their experience with these guides and other hunters
will have lasting and fond memories!
